One man found himself a symbol of hope while he was digging through the rubble of the World Trade Center - a cross. The twisted steel beams, now familiar as the 9/11 cross, was then taken by many as a symbol of hope and faith after the tragedy struck the twin towers. But, a group, the American Atheists, have filed a lawsuit to stop the cross, now familiar as the “World Trade Cross,” from being displayed in an exhibit in the National September 11th Memorial and Museum, according to ABC News....

With the approval of a federal judge in Florida on Friday, the Chiquita terrorism lawsuit will move forward, permitting thousands of Colombians to sue the banana grower for aiding in state-sponsored human rights violations. The lawsuit stems from $1.7 million in payments Chiquita made to the AUC, a Colombian paramilitary group that has been labeled a terrorist organization by U.S. officials. As a paramilitary organization, the AUC has been responsible for the murder and torture of thousands of Colombians, but has specifically targeted labor and leftists activists in the country’s banana growing region, according to Slate....

Johnson & Johnson is set to pay more than $4 billion to settle thousands of lawsuits over its recalled hip implants. A Los Angeles judge has consolidated more than 40 California Toyota lawsuits filed against the automaker over cars that have sped out of control leading to the massive recall of more than 8.5 million Toyota vehicles across the globe. Dozens of Toyota claims were quickly filed, and many of the attorneys involved wished to avoid consolidating them. The judge held off, however, on deciding where this single proceeding will take place....

Two men whose street race claimed the lives of a mother and her two children in 2007 were sentenced today. On charges including gross vehicle manslaughter and second degree murder of each victim, Robert Canizalez, and Martin Ariel Morones received sentences of 48 and 45 years to life, respectively.
